While people in Israel celebrate the Jewish holiday, Yom Kippur, attacks from Lebanon have renewed. According to the Israeli army, missile warnings were sounded in the coastal city of Haifa, among other places. The reason is two drones that were launched from the neighboring country and were intercepted.
Dozens of bullets were recorded
Sirens sounded again elsewhere in northern Israel. The Israeli army said that a total of about 40 shells had been recorded from the neighboring country since early morning. There are currently no reports of injuries or damage. The extremist Islamic group Hezbollah in Lebanon claimed responsibility for several attacks.
Since yesterday evening, people in Israel have been celebrating Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Believers fast and hope for forgiveness of their sins. Television and radio stations cut off their broadcasts. Shops, cinemas, bars and restaurants remain closed.
Aside from police cars and emergency services, there are no cars driving on top of the Jewish holiday. Across the country, many people travel the roads and highways on bicycles, e-scooters and on foot, including many groups of children.
The Israeli army has significantly intensified its fight against the Shiite Hezbollah militia since September, including launching large-scale air strikes and a ground offensive in Lebanon.
