Jazz guitar legend Al Di Meola will appear as a guest this coming Sunday (July 16th) at the renovated Cselley Mill in Oslip, Burgenland. After that, only eight more summer concerts are planned in Europe before the 69-year-old soon retires to his summer residence in Capri — cooking and making music for his party guests. Such an exclusive dinner with and with Al costs €8,500 – it’s much cheaper in “Mü” including catering.
Al Di Meola – an American with parents from Campania, Italy – is considered one of the best jazz guitarists of the past decades. He has been very successful on his own and has won countless awards – in the early 1970s he was also considered the “world’s fastest guitarist”; Which, however, was spectacularly “attacking” at the peak of his career: the collaboration with Paco de Lucia and John McLaughlin on Friday Night in San Francisco, on which the legendary album “Friday Night in San Francisco” appeared. They include the cult piece “Mediterranean Sundance,” in which Di Meola and the flamenco “god” De Lucia duel with McLaughlin for an eleven-and-a-half minutes.
On the 4th, 8th and 9th of August, things will certainly be more relaxed at Al Di Meola’s spacious residence in Capri: aperitifs and antipasti are popular on the sun terrace overlooking the sea, followed by a three-course menu, which “chef” Albert Lawrence Di Meola prepares personally, usually Whats with a lot of fish, seafood and other local specialties. Then the master plays his guitar in the same way and tells stories from his life in an intimate setting, above all about his meetings with such greats as Luciano Pavarotti, Paul Simon, Paco de Lucia, John McLaughlin and Phil Collins.
It seems exclusive, and it is: the evenings with the unsurprising motto “Sundance Mediterranean” cost €8,500 each, and are “all inclusive” for the paying guest/fan with a maximum of three people accompanying them. You don’t have to worry too much about clothing: ‘Mediterranean casual’ is totally enough, says Al …
