Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon//SRAM Racing) won the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2024 by just four seconds. Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) put pressure on Niewiadoma on stage 8 from Grand-Bornand to Alpe d'Huez, but she managed to win the stage. But in the end she lost the crucial four seconds.
Vollering therefore remained only second in the overall standings. Paulina Ruijkers (Phoenix-Deceuninck) took second place on the tough Alpine stage with two horse-class climbs, four seconds behind. Thanks to this strong performance, she also secured third place in the overall standings, ten seconds behind first.
Iveta Muzic (FDJ-Suez) took third place in the stage on the Alps, 1:01 behind. The Frenchwoman won the sprint against Kasia Niuyadoma, who was fourth on the day.

In the first kilometres after the start, Amber Crack (FDJ-SUEZ) attacks. However, minutes later, the field is complete again. Shortly afterwards a group of more than 20 riders formed and set off.
This breakaway group was led by Misha Bredewald, Blanca Faas, Christine Majerus, Lorena Wibbs (all SD Worx-Protime), Justine Gecker (AG Insurance-Soudal), Olivia Barel, Leanne Lippert (both Movistar) and Lucinda Brand (Lidl-Trek). ), Silke Smulders (Liv Ala Jaiko), Alice Maria Arzové (Ceratisette-WNT), Kirsten Faulkner, Noemi Roeg (both EF Utley-Cannondale), Katrin Allrod, Mei Bjorndal Ottstad (both Uno-X Mobility), Rejan Markus, Wim van Empel (both Visma | Lease a Bike Team), Franziska Koch (dsm-unternehmenich PostNL), Erika Magnaldi, Silvia Persico (both UAE Team ADQ), Camille Fahey, Célia Le Mouille (both Saint-Michel Mavic-Auber93) and Louis Adegist (FG-Suez).
Justine Gecker has taken the mountains classification on the Col de Tamie and wants to take a big step towards securing the polka dot jersey classification. This group headed together to the start of the Col du Glandon. But on the Horse category mountain, the breakaway group split into several smaller groups.
In the peloton, FDJ-SUEZ, Canyon//SRAM and Fenix-Deceuninck took care of the follow-up work.
In Glandon, the climb in the horse category, the leading group gradually collapsed. The chasers, led by Niamh Fisher-Black (SD Worx-Protime), were getting closer and closer.
Valentina Cavalar (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) from the favourite group sat about 7km below the summit. She caught up with the escapees and took the lead.
Then Fullering attacked 2.5 kilometres below the summit. Only the Roojakkers could follow. By the time they reached the summit of Glandon, they had caught up with Kavalar and continued as a trio.
Behind the trio, the yellow jersey group crossed the Glandon pass with a lead of 57 seconds. At that time, it included Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon//SRAM Racing), Gaia Realini, Lucinda Brand (both Lidl-Trek), Sarah Gigante (AG Insurance-Soudal Team), Evita Muzic (FDJ-Suez).
On the descent, Cedrine Kerbauer (Ceratisette-WNT) and Niamh Fisher-Black (returned to the yellow group. Valentina Cavalar lost contact at the front.
Rooijakkers also had trouble keeping up with Vollering on the descents, but was always able to close the gap. Meanwhile, Rooijakkers was wearing the virtual yellow jersey as the duo held a lead of more than 1:15.
But the chasers came close on the flat part. On the one hand, because Rooijakkers wasn't really riding consistently, and on the other hand, because Lucinda Brand in the group behind her also got everything she could. But the group around the yellow jersey benefited not only from Lucinda Brand's legs, but also from the motorcycles that gave them a flowing stream.

At the start of the climb to Alpe d'Huez, Kasia Niewiadoma's group was still 43 seconds behind the leader. Niewiadoma immediately went to the front of her group and only Realini and Muzic were able to follow her.
About 10 kilometres from the finish, Vollering and Ruijkers' lead increased again to over a minute.
The second poker game began. In the last 1000m, Vollering broke away from Rooijakkers and took the win. In the back group, Muzic beat Niewiadoma in the sprint and took the bonuses at the last time.
