Kevin Costner dreamed of this project for so long that he named his son after him: the first part of his western epic “Horizon” celebrated its premiere in Cannes. The 69-year-old plays a man named Hayes Ellison. His son – 15-year-old Hayes Costner – appears in one of the roles. He walked the red carpet with his siblings at the film festival premiere. “I don't automatically give my kids a role in the movie,” Costner said.
His son can be seen in some scenes in the western movie as a boy who faces mortal danger because he does not want to leave his father alone. “If my kids weren't interested in this business, I wouldn't automatically give them anything because I know there are other people for whom this is a dream,” Costner said. “But I'm also a father, and it wasn't a long role, and I wanted him to be close to me.”
“Horizon” will be published in four chapters. Costner has been trying to finance the massive project for more than 30 years. In the end, he invested around 20 million euros of his own money. Over the years he developed an obsession with the project. “I started it in 1988, and I couldn't get attached to it, but I never stopped loving it,” he said. “I don't know what this says about me, but I couldn't tear myself away from Hayes. And at one point in my life, 15 years ago, I just named my son Hayes because I couldn't let him do that.” He goes.”
