Lionel Messi’s seventh Ballon d’Or is still hotly debated the day after it was awarded. After some football greats got excited right after the party (More information >>), Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp was surprised by the award on Tuesday afternoon.
“You can always give it to Lionel Messi, for his career and his playing. But if you don’t give it to Robert Lewandowski this time, when?”
The fact that Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah was only seventh was a thorn in the German side. “Mo should definitely have been rated higher.”
With a wink he quickly found the officials. “It’s a journalist’s election, isn’t it?” he asked the reporters present.
Seven goats in front of the Eiffel Tower
And while some disagreed with Messi’s election, there were more congratulations to the Argentine from several quarters.
Messi’s sponsor Adidas has created something very special: seven golden goats were placed in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in honor of the newly crowned world footballer (photo below).
Of course, a quick swipe at all the critics who don’t see the Argentine as “the goats” (goats, short for Greatest Of All Time) despite winning the Ballon d’Or now.
Leo Messi, the greatest of all time.
