A late goal by striker Karim Benzema saved Real Madrid a difficult 3-1 victory over Espanyol Barcelona and put them at the top of the table.
Vinicius Juniors put the visitors ahead in the 12th minute with a beautiful direct shot from eleven yards. Next, the Madrilenians define the game. As a result, Joselu tied before the first half (43′).
After changing sides, Real becomes more offensive, but the master will be lucky for a long time. This effort was rewarded only in the 88th minute: Benzema crossed Rodrygo with his right foot from a short distance.
In stoppage time, it becomes strange again: Espanyol goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte sees the red Karite after a foul on Ceballos in the sixth minute of stoppage time. With Espanyol’s bench quota exhausted, field player Leandro Cabrera has to move between the rolls. And soon Cabrera received another goal: Benzema fired a free kick into the goal from 17 meters (90 + 10). Cabrera does not look good due to the lack of reaction. Shortly thereafter the game is over.
Real Madrid leads the table with nine points from three matches, ahead of Betis Sevilla. Espanyol still holds just one point and is provisionally 16th.
