A strong earthquake shook the Principality of Liechtenstein early Thursday afternoon.
According to the Austrian seismological service of the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG), the magnitude of the tremors was 3.8.
People are escaping into the open
The quake was also visibly felt in Vorarlberg, and some people fled into the open, according to ZAMG. A weaker precursor was also recorded by the population.
The epicenter was northeast of the capital of Liechtenstein Vaduz, only about 15 kilometers from Feldkirch. According to ZAMG, given the proximity, minor damage to Vorarlberg is likely. However, there have been no reports of damage yet.
Parliament session suspended
A curious side note: the earthquake occurred exactly when the Liechtenstein Parliament was dealing with a hypothesis regarding earthquake insurance in Liechtenstein. The session was briefly postponed due to the earthquake, as this video shows:
The earthquake occurred at 1:57 pm. The earthquake service requested a visualization model on the home page http://www.zamg.ac.at/bebenmelde To fill out the QuakeWatch Austria application or use the QuakeWatch Austria application or to send written reports to the address Hohe Warte 38, 1190 Vienna.
