USA Luge Announces Coaching Team: Tony Eggert with Lubo Mick and Casper’s Dumbis
A good month before the start of the EBERESPÄCHER Toboggan World Cup in Lake Placid, USA, the American Toboggan Association (USA Luge) announced its training team.
Surprisingly, in addition to head coach Lubomir Mick and Caspers Dambis, German eleven-time world champion Tony Eggert was also hired as the coach of the US national team.
Lubomir Mick is the head coach of the US national team
Slovakian Olympian Lubomir Mick will serve as head coach. Latvia’s Kaspers Dampis, Olympian and World Cup winner in doubles, is supported by Germany’s Toni Eggert.
Mick has been the US National Coach for ten years, while Dumbis is entering his second year as the National Coach. After retiring from competitive sports in August 2023, Eggert is new to the national team’s coaching staff. As one of the most decorated German lugers, Eggert won bronze at the 2018 Olympic Games and silver at the 2022 Olympic Games. Tony Eggert and Saska Beneken have a record 54 World Cup wins and 106 World Cup podiums. At their home World Championships in Oberhof in January 2023, Eggert/Benecken again showed their best sporting class with three titles.
Jakub Simonak will serve as the manager of the US national team. After his athletes won eight medals in youth and junior competitions last season, Pat Anderson returns as head coach of the junior national team. Arturs Darzniks will continue to support him as Junior National Coach. Darznieks is a 2018 and 2022 Olympian for Latvia. Keith Younger will serve as the manager of the junior national team.
Aidan Kelly, a 2014 Olympian, is in charge of the C Juniors. Two-time Olympian Jason Tertiman will support Kelly as the C Juniors team captain.
