City is paying €25 million for River Plate, and Paris Saint-Germain were previously interested as well. The attacking midfielder is supposed to stay in his homeland until the summer, and perhaps until the end of the year.
Echeverry recently impressed at the Under-17 World Cup when he showed his mettle with a memorable hat-trick in the quarter-finals against Brazil. Argentina finished the tournament in fourth place.
In addition to Echeverry, City are also said to be eyeing two other River Plate talents: Agustin Roberto and Ian Subiabre.
Both players, who also impressed at the Under-17 World Cup, have attracted interest from several clubs. In addition to City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also considered potential buyers. City has maintained good relations with River Plate since the transfer of Julian Alvarez in 2022.
