Josef Hader, Klaus Maria Brandur, Ernie Mangold, Birgit Mennishmeyer and Christine Ostermayer are some of the local actors and actresses who have received the country acting major award in recent years. This year it goes to Margaret Tessel. “I think it’s funny that I get so much prize for small roles,” Tessel jokes. But long ago, this Viennese woman played her way to major lead roles in German films through numerous supporting roles and worked with Ulrich Seidl in “Paradise: Libby” and Fatih Akin in “Der Golden Glüf,” among others. Tiesel has also participated in many television productions over the past decades, including in the crime series “Trautmann” as Frau Blauensteiner. After many engagements in Germany, she was recently seen at the Schauspielhaus Graz, which has become – as she says – her “home theater” since the mid-1990s. Chris Raeber’s love drama “Stars Under the City” opens in local cinemas this week, and Margaret Tessel is a grandmother.
