Unless you’ve been living in complete isolation lately, it’s hard to miss the recent buzz surrounding Marc Marquez’s move to Gresini Racing MotoGP™ in 2024. The eight-time world champion and Repsol Honda officially announced their split just one week ago. Shortly before the Indonesia Grand Prix, Marquez confirmed that he would switch to a Ducati machine for the 2024 season. Once this news broke, one of the most pressing questions was who would take over the role of crew chief for the No. 93 in 2024.
Fortunately we didn’t have to wait long for an answer. Gresini’s sporting director, Michele Masini, confirmed that Frankie Carchedi, the crew chief who won the world championship with Joan Mir in 2020, will work with Marquez in 2024.
“I can confirm that Frankie Carchidi will be Mark’s crew chief next season,” Masini told MotoGP™ Pitlane correspondent Jack Appleyard. “We are still talking about mechanics, but we will strengthen the team with someone else.”
Carchidi is currently teamed up with Fabio Di Giannantonio, who is in good form having enjoyed many successes with Mir during his time at Suzuki, including a memorable title-winning year. This news brings together another piece of the puzzle for Marquez, who is embarking on a new adventure after 11 years with Honda.
