Meredith Monk – composer, singer, director, choreographer, and creator of new operas, musical theatrical works, films, and installations – was born November 20, 1942, in New York City. She is considered one of the most distinguished and influential artists of our time and is a pioneer, now referred to as “extended vocal technique” and “interdisciplinary performance”.

Monk creates works that thrive at the intersection of the two terms, discovering and weaving new modes of perception. Her pioneering exploration of sound as an instrument, as an eloquent language in its own right, pushes the boundaries of musical composition and creates soundscapes that evoke emotions, energies, and memories.
