Milan (dpa-AFX) – Big Alliance at Milan Fashion Week: two of the most important Italian fashion houses collaborated on a special project. Fendi and Versace interpreted each other’s style under the name Fendace – a combination of parts from both brand names. This resulted in two collections that caused quite a stir in the fashion world.
It was introduced on Sunday by a typical “Who’s Who” bodyguard of the past few decades, led by Naomi Campbell, Amber Valletta, Kate Moss and Gigi Hadid. Celebrities were also stationed in the audience, including actresses Demi Moore and Elizabeth Hurley (she came with son Damian), model Winnie Harlow and British singer Dua Lipa.
Silvia Venturini Fendi and Artistic Director of Womenswear Kim Jones took traditional Versace elements such as baroque prints or safety pins as a basis and added the Roman fashion house’s double F as the most eye-catching mark on their handwriting line. On the other hand, Donatella Versace gave Fendi’s style a somewhat more rebellious direction and accentuated her interpretation with a Medusa head, Versace’s home design.
In the accompanying press release, the two sides spoke of “mutual respect and friendship,” which would have constituted the creative exchange. Collaboration between fashion brands has often been around, but the fact that two essentially competing luxury homes come together in this way is something new. / abo/DP/jha
