For more than 40 years, Melk Abbey has been the venue for one of the most traditional Baroque festivals in Europe. The relationship between man and nature will be explored in a total of 12 concerts from May 26 to 29 under the theme “Man: Nature: Where to?”. World-famous premieres will also be invited this year: well-known ensembles such as the Vienna Boys’ Choir or the Orfeo Baroque Orchestra will attend along with exciting young performers such as violinist Maddalena del Gobo or soprano Johanna Rosa Falkinger Steg.
New Highlight: Baroque Orchestra Academia Mellicensis
Michael Schade, Artistic Director of Internationale Barocktage Stift Melk, was inspired for this year’s edition of the festival by current challenges that bring nature back into focus. “Nature and how to deal with it is the starting point for the current program. It should appeal to all of us and maybe even make us think. At the same time, we want to celebrate nature and its beauty,” explains Chadi. An exceptional event will also be presented as part of the closing concert “Solo tutti”: young musicians will be invited to take part in the concert as part of the baroque orchestra Academia Mellicensis. In a few days, the musicians unite to form a band.

About International Baroque Days at Deir Melek
As the largest monastery complex in the Austrian Baroque, Melk Abbey has always been devoted to music as well as spirituality. The cultivation of music there experienced a peak in the eighteenth century. In order to revive this historical affinity, concerts have been held in the Baroque Rooms since 1978, which have been held every year on Pentecost since 1991 and are dedicated to the music of the Baroque era and its new interpretation. Kammersänger Michael Schade has been in charge of the program since 2014. The concerts – from the solo evening to the 50-person Baroque Orchestra – reflect the great diversity and range of Baroque music. The International Baroque Festival in Melk is now one of the oldest Baroque festivals in Europe. More information at: www.wachaukulturmelk.at/de/barocktagemelk
