Tyrolean food retailer MPreis faces challenges on its 50th anniversary: in 2022, the family business recorded a loss of 15 million euros on sales of 801 million euros. Obviously we will also be in the red in 2023.
There are 281 sites in Austria, most of them in the west. To a lesser extent, MPreis (which also includes wholesaler T&G) is represented in Carinthia and Upper Austria. The company says there are no plans to withdraw from federal states. The transformation process has begun and the goal is to return to the black in 2024. The branches are continuously evaluated and a certain level of volatility is considered “normal.” 20 branches have closed in the past two years (Wels will close in April) and nine have opened. MPreis frequently faces sales rumors: “We don't want to sell the company, we don't have to.”
