Tornadoes have killed many people and caused extensive damage in the US Midwest. The community of 2,000 residents of Greenfield, Iowa, about an hour's drive from the state capital, Des Moines, was particularly hard hit.
Police spokesman Alex Dinkla told CNN: “Unfortunately we can confirm there were casualties in this tornado.” He could not initially provide precise information on the number of victims.

According to CNN, 17 tornadoes have been reported in Iowa at times. Since yesterday, several tornadoes have moved across parts of the United States, causing flooding, damage and widespread power outages. The website “Poweroutage.us” reports that nearly 200,000 homes and businesses were affected in the states of Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois.
According to CNN, there will be more storms and tornadoes in the coming days – especially toward Texas. Natural disasters in the U.S. — hurricanes, floods and wildfires — are attributed by experts to the effects of climate change.
