Rehearsals for the new musical “The Addams Family” have been underway since January, but now the play is coming to life. This is at least due to the mask and choreography rehearsals that have now taken place. NÖN was there one morning.
While the helping spirits were carrying a great deal of lunch for everyone to the canteen, the actors were discussing where the character should leave the stage, while in the dressing room the actor's bald head was being adjusted.
There was one woman in particular in charge this weekend, Sarah Chiappe, who had flown in from England specifically to choreograph. Dance performances of musicals were created under her supervision for 26 years. When Chiappe is in the country, rehearsals take place from Friday afternoon to Sunday, “sometimes until very late,” says Teresa Mikisch, the theater company's public relations officer. But these days “this piece is coming together for the first time — with the costumes and set design and the choreography, and that's always really cool to see.”
Incidentally, there are three new additions among the 24 cast: Triebwerk Impro stage director Christoph Bohl, Wendlin Kratochwil, and Tobias Bittner. The premiere will be on May 4th. Tickets for the 10 shows in total: www.theaterimneukloster.at
