The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will not be performing at the Musikverein in front of a full house. The orchestra announced that the number of visitors was limited to a maximum of 1,000 people in response to the requirements of the political events that have been in place since Monday. This means that 2G-plus access is applied and the obligation to wear an FFP2 mask. A place will be reserved for the next year for those whose cards have become invalid.

“Even if this procedure brings with it a particular logistical challenge and requires a high degree of understanding and willingness to adapt from everyone, we are happy to have the New Year’s concert with the public again this time,” said Daniel Froschauer, director, quoted by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Additional options for Vienna Philharmonic would have been to allow only 500 people under the 2G rule or up to 2,000 people with a third stitch and a valid PCR test. On January 1, 2021, the world-famous concert was held without an audience.
According to a letter from the Vienna Philharmonic to available APA card holders, seating on the balcony and gallery is being sacrificed for the sake of reduction. Anyone who is not among the 1,000 lucky people can watch the New Year’s Eve party on TV on ORF 2. The start is under the direction of Daniel Barenboim at 11.15 am.
