Frankfurt N26 has found a successor to Jan Kemper: Arnd Schwierholz will become the new CFO of the Berlin-based smartphone bank on February 1 this year. The company announced late Thursday evening.
Schwierholz comes from the venture capital firm Iconical, which specializes in investing in tech startups. He was recently active there as CFO and Partner. N26 said he brings decades of experience in technology and financial management to the publicly traded companies.
With an age of 52, N26 is already a proven financial guru. Among other things, he worked as an investment banker in a major Swiss bank UBS And the financial director at Lufthansa-Share the Sky Chefs and Air Berlin. In 2016 he then moved to mobility provider Flix (formerly FlixMobility), the parent company of Flixbus and Flixtrain. There he was also responsible for financial management until his move to Iconical in 2021.
N26 Supervisory Board Chairman Markus Mossen said he was convinced Schwierholz would make an important contribution to the development of N26 with his experience and passion for financial matters. With the occupation, N26 can quickly fill the gap in the management team after the sudden departure of Jan Kemper in mid-December last year.

It was said at the time that both parties had agreed to separate. At the end of November, Kemper confirmed in an interview with Handelsblatt how satisfied he was with his current assignment. “I don’t interpret my current position as CFO and COO as a grain counter,” he said at the time, “but I do feel comfortable as a co-pilot with important operational responsibility.”
Kemper only joined N26 in 2021, initially solely as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and since the beginning of last year has also been Chief Financial Officer (COO). After Kemper’s departure, co-founder and co-CEO Maximilian Tayenthal took over the job. Now the position of Chief Financial Officer has been held.
The new German coach is coming
N26 also closed another gap in management on Thursday. Daniel Labas is now responsible for the surface area, namely Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as Northern Europe, the company announced. Labas is affiliated with the recruitment network LinkedIn, where he was responsible for the International Consumer Strategies and Operations department. He previously worked at the management consulting firm Boston Consulting Group and as risk manager for the Munich-based BMW car manufacturer.
The position of President of Germany had been vacant at N26 since Georg Hauer left in September 2021. At the time, N26 said the search for Hauer’s successor was “already well advanced”. Now, almost a year and a half later, the search is over.
