Narrow defeat: Vienna loses despite catching Vorarlberg

In the eighth round of the ADMIRAL II League, Vienna traveled to Vorarlberg. Despite an early 0-2 deficit due to two goals from the home team in the first half, the Blue and Yellow returned to the match after the break. But in the end they were narrowly defeated 3-2.

Due to several illnesses, head coach Sütcü had to change some of his positions in the starting lineup compared to the last match against Rapid II. The good news is that goalkeeper Giuliani is back in the starting lineup. Nnamdi from the amateur team also celebrated his first appearance in Vienna's starting lineup.

An early double blow puts Vienna behind

After an even opening phase, Bregenz took the lead in the 12th minute. Nussbaumer received a pass in the penalty area and did not miss the opportunity: his shot bounced off the inside crossbar and into the net, and Giuliani was unable to stop it. The next setback for the blue and yellow came a few minutes later. After a cross into the box, Vucinovic unfortunately blocked a shot to make it 2-0. It was a bitter moment for Vienna, but they did not give up.

Combat reaction and chances of catching up

Despite the early double blow, Vienna showed morale and quickly found their way into the match. Already in the 19th minute, the Döblingers took a dangerous lead in front of Bregenz's goal: Titkov's shot was hit by a defender against the crossbar. Shortly afterwards, another chance arose from a corner kick when Bombek sent the ball neatly into the penalty area. But Steiner's header did not pose any major problem for goalkeeper Flückiger.

The target does not want success

Munchin had Vienna's best opportunity so far in the 29th minute. After an extended pass, he finished the ball from a narrow angle, but Flückiger, in Bregenz's goal, was alert and sent away for a corner kick. In the subsequent corner, Omirovic headed the ball, but the attempt went wide.

At this point, Vienna pushed hard for the next goal. First, a Sanogo shot was cleared off the line by a Bregenz defender, then a well-positioned Flückiger blocked Munchin again. In the 34th minute, Diomande's shot narrowly missed the target before hitting the crossbar with a long-range shot shortly afterwards. It seemed clear that Vienna was the stronger team at this stage, but despite the intense efforts, they were unable to score a deserved goal before the end of the first half.

A strong start and a well deserved goal

After the break, Vienna continued its strong phase smoothly since the first half. Just two minutes into the second half, Boateng asserted himself dynamically in the Bregenz penalty area. He played an accurate pass into the middle, where Bombek was lurking and scored the deserved goal – 2-1, and Vienna got back into the game. Blaug-Yellow continued to press: shortly afterwards, Diomande tested the Bregenz goalkeeper with a sharp long-range shot, which was cleared from the danger zone.

Bregenz is coming, but Vienna remains stable

After the goal, Bregenz also came back into the game better, but Dopplinger's defense was secure and did not allow any significant scoring chances. The match became increasingly difficult, which was also reflected in the home team receiving two yellow cards. At this point, Vienna were well organized defensively and largely kept Vorarlberg's pressure at bay.

Draw and more chances

In the 67th minute, Vienna's efforts were finally rewarded. After a wonderful combination between Monchin and Bombek, the ball reached the advancing Boateng inside the penalty area, who calmly converted it from close range to make the score 2-2. The equalizer was more than deserved at this stage. Shortly afterwards, the very active Bombek had another good chance, but his shot went wide of the Bregenz goal.

Dangerous moments and another setback

The Döblingers were very lucky in the 72nd minute when Ungar, following a long ball from Bregens into the box, headed the ball dangerously onto his own crossbar. The match featured a second-tier, second-tier duel with chances on both sides. In the 76th minute, Bregenz narrowly missed the lead again when Monsberger's header hit the crossbar. But soon the time came: after a high ball, the Döblingers initially managed to clear the ball, but Renan used the follow-up shot to give the home team a new 3-2 lead.

A bitter expulsion and an unfortunate ending

Only moments later, Vienna suffered another setback. Bombeck received a red card after a foul, and the visitors were forced to play with fewer numbers in the final minutes. Bregenz had several other chances, but Giuliani prevented them from falling further behind. In the end there was a bitter 2:3 away defeat in Vorarlberg.

Vienna's next chance to collect points again awaits next Tuesday in Hoorn.
