Basketball professional Austin Reaves could play for the United States instead of Germany at the World Cup this summer. According to a report by The Athletic, Reaves, like fellow NBA stars Anthony Edwards and Jalen Brunson, has agreed to play for the Olympic champion at the tournament in Asia (August 25-September 10).

The 25-year-old point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers has a German grandmother and claims German citizenship.
There was repeated speculation that Reeves could play for Germany in the tournament in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines. “We haven’t spoken in a while, haven’t spoken to anyone in months. The plan was to do nothing this summer. But at some point I want to enjoy it,” Reeves told the German press two weeks ago.
With the Lakers advancing to the Western Conference Finals, he had a strong season alongside superstar LeBron James and national team captain Dennis Schroder. On August 20, the USA meets Germany in a World Cup warm-up game in Abu Dhabi. In the tournament, the two nations could soon clash in the semi-finals.
