New FM4 Releases This Week

Who should top the FM4 charts next week? This week's picks are: Artemas, Billie Eilish, Master Peace and Gwen Dolyn.

By Gerald Hollier

Artemas – “Dirty Little Secret”

With “I Love the Way You Kiss Me,” the British musician and producer wrote one of the biggest hits of the year. The dark, undulating post-punk sound of the 80s, combined with high-pitched, gender-neutral vocals, hit the retro zeitgeist on its head. It’s as if The Weekend’s AI fell in love with The Cure’s sound and, as a token of love, created the album “Seventeen Seconds” with an auto-tune RnB to bring it into the present. Instead of a cheap drum machine, Artemas uses a Gabba-esque greased-up percussion system. Unlike the hit single, this sounds a little more relaxed on “Dirty Little Secret.” You can catch Artemas live in August at FM4 Frequencies Festival.

Billie Eilish – “Birds of a Feather”

The biggest pop star of our time – with the possible exception of Taylor Swift – isn’t exactly known for her light, airy voice. On her current album “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT,” increasingly bright beams of light flicker in the darkened nursery – or in Billie Eilish’s case, perhaps now in the 40-square-meter gold-plated master bedroom. So where do these helpful rays of hope come from? We assume the 22-year-old musician is deeply in love. And we all know: the harder it is to fall in love, the easier it is to move on with life. Billie Eilish has now captured that light feeling and used it to write the dreamy love song “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” with her brother Finneas. The music video is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in a long time:

Mr. Peace – “Home (with Will)”

What do Scorpion's “Wind of Change”, Peter Bjorn's “Young Folks” and Bobby McFerrin's “Don't Worry Be Happy” have in common? 1. They're huge global hits. 2. They're songs that use the much-underrated art form of human whistling. English musician Master Peace is now also trying to make a big splash with “Home”. The first obstacle: the FM4 charts 😉 The obstacles: you – the person reading this right now. With your vote you can now decide whether Master Peace succeeds or fails. We'll find out on August 16th whether he'll be a success in the coming weeks. At the FM4 Frequency Festival. Are thousands of people whistling to the live version of “Home”, or are Master Peace's lips cracked and bleeding as he tries to overcome the scratching sound of rolling grass.

Gwen Doolin – “Ill-Prepared”

“Some girls on my playlist are raining benzo, I'm just standing in the room wanting to meet a boy” – Such lines show that Darmstadt-based artist Gwen Doolin is not just a flash in the pan, but will continue to delight us with her creative acrobatic lyrics and musical vision for a long time to come. Gwen Doolin’s English is somewhat reminiscent of our local heroes who emigrated. Yes, panic. In contrast to the Berliners by choice, the exiled Berliners, who also spent a lot of time in the United States, seem more charming and less intelligent.
