New Year’s party dances in Milk and Laxenburg

In 2023, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra’s New Year’s Concert will see three dance performances instead of the previous two by the Vienna State Ballet. Filming has already been completed. The dance takes place at Melk Abbey and Laxenburg Castle (Modeling district).

The garden pavilion in Milk’s Abbey Park is the setting for the Edward Strauss movie “Auf und weg,” which tells the story of a clever butterfly with a dancing couple and a good chunk of humor. Filming has also taken place inside the Melk Monastery, some of which are not open to the public. This is where the third and final dance break was created, which will be shown at the conclusion of the concert: a new recording of Johann Strauss’ “On the Beautiful Blue Danube” with five dancing pairs.

As usual, New Year’s Day breaks will be given to selected pieces from Franz Welser-Most’s third concert. But for the first time this year, three dance performances can be seen instead of two from the Vienna State Ballet. In addition to Melk Abbey, the film was also shot in the Rococo Palace in Laxenburg and in the garden there. Laxenburg is the setting for Joseph Strauss’ “Pearls of Love”.
