Novak Djokovic is in the middle of the ‘Golden Slam’ quest – he’s already won three Grand Slams in 2021, and if he succeeds, the Olympic gold and the US Open title will now be added.
Djokovic didn’t stay long at the start in Tokyo, it was 6:2, 6:2 against Hugo Delane and Jan-Lennard Struve also made a strong impression in 6:3, 6:4 against Thiago Monteiro. But is that enough against Djokovic?
So far, “Struffi” has rarely been able to stand up to Djocker, so far the world number one’s defense against the German attack has been very strong. Who will also need his first serve this time around to be able to dictate the points to Djokovic.
Struff vs Djokovic: In a direct comparison, nothing has been possible so far
5:0 In a direct comparison between Djokovic and Struve, four encounters have taken place on hard ground, only once has Struve been able to win a set: 2020 in Round 1 of the French Open. 7:6(5), 6:2, 2:6 and 6:1 were ultimately for Djokovic. The last time they played each other at the US Open last year, Djokovic won 6:3, 6:3 and 6:1.
So Struve needs a plan – quite feasible, Alexander Zverev is passing on one piece of advice or another here. After all, he has defeated Djokovic twice already.
When does Struve come against Djokovic?
The match between Jan-Lennard Struve and Novak Djokovic is scheduled to be the fourth game on Monday after 4 a.m. CST, so it should start in the morning, in Tokyo in the afternoon.
