The Austrian national ice hockey team lost their second international match in Slovakia on Sunday evening. ÖEHV had to admit defeat 0: 2 in Pestani. On Saturday there was a 3-1 defeat to the Slovaks in the same place.
Team leader Roger Bader had to dispense with ailing Peter Schneider and Gerd Kragl. Alexander Rauschwald took command of the captain’s ring and the place in the storm from Schneider, Daniel Jakubitzka was used in defense. This time Bernhard Starkbaum was in goal and showing a strong performance.
Badr said, “The team was exciting in terms of fighting. Everyone fought until the last moment.” “We played against Slovakia for 120 minutes and in 5 against 5 we finished 1: 1. We can be satisfied with the performance, but our closing behavior should improve.”
Both goals outnumbered
As expected, the Slovaks were clearly the dominant team and used two of three strong assists in the first third. Milos Roman (13) and Adrian Holisinski (17) benefited twice from the weakness of the Austrian match.
Since the middle third, the Austrians have settled down, and they have had the greatest chance of scoring the next goal directly at the start of the final third via Rushwald. After that, the ÖEHV team received many penalties, but survived the long deficiency without conceding any other goals. In the offensive, however, calm has continued with only five goals in the previous six international matches – albeit mostly against the top nations.
Next week the Austrians will continue with a training camp in Tirol and two international matches on Saturday (6:00 pm) and Sunday (4:00 pm) in Bolzano against Italy.
