Offices are gaining momentum and occupancy is increasing across Europe, according to a survey of 120 companies by real estate services provider CBRE.
As a result, average building occupancy rose from 48% in 2023 to 61% recently. Only a third of companies reported utilization of 40% or less. Last year, nearly half of all surveyed said this. Larger companies (5,000 or more employees) are more successful at bringing their employees into the office: Nearly two-thirds of this group reported occupancy rates of 41% or higher. The percentage of employees who go to the office three or more days a week rose from 37% to 43%.
In parallel with the increasing rates of use, the enforcement of internal regulations also continues to increase. The CBRE study found that more than three-quarters of companies have some form of attendance policy, although only 40 percent said these policies are mandatory. Another 17 percent said decisions about office attendance are made by individual teams. This suggests a lack of a consistent approach to monitoring and enforcing regulations.
