As she told Die Welt newspaper: “The reprisals are affecting the entire Belarusian society, including the athletes, and not even stopping at the Olympic peace,” Masarali said:
“We express our full solidarity with Kristina Tymanovskaya and our respect for the member states that have offered their support. We welcome Poland’s issuance of a humanitarian visa to her.”
Tymanovskaya, 24, spent the night on Monday at a hotel at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport after expressing her fear on social media that she would be sent back to Belarus against her will. She also asked for help from the International Olympic Committee.

The trigger for this case was apparently a now-deleted video posted by Timanovskaya on Instagram. In it she criticized the Belarusian Athletics Federation. Tymanovskaya said she was forced to participate in the 4×400 race because the association did not guarantee the number of appropriate doping controls for the athletes scheduled to start in the relay.
