OMV spokesman Andreas Reinofner confirmed a report by Courier that OMV Oil and Gas Board Member and Executive Vice President Johan Bellinger (60)’s contract will not be extended.
Rinofner did not wish to comment on the reasons for the decision. According to Courier, there were differences over the strategy of the oil and gas company. In the end, not everyone would have voted against Pleininger in the contest vote, but the two largest shareholders, Mubadala (Abu Dhabi) and state holding ÖBAG.
While CEO Alfred Stern wants a long-term exit from oil and gas, Bellinger advocates splitting oil and gas into a separate energy company, which should have an investor, Courier writes. Pleininger is also committed to the environmentally friendly extraction of shale gas in Weinviertel. Stern sees this more importantly.
Pleininger’s contract runs until August 31, 2023. The decision not to extend it was made at an extraordinary meeting of the Supervisory Board on Friday. According to Rinofner, OMV will arrange a successor in due course.
