The Mondi Neusiedler paper mill in Kematen an der Ybbs (Amstetten district) will focus on more sustainability in the future. Greenhouse gas emissions should be reduced, energy efficiency increased, and operational safety increased. 20 million euros are being invested.

Lower emissions of greenhouse gases and nitrogen oxides as well as approximately 25 percent lower gas consumption: this is what the investments in the paper mill in Kematten an der Ybbs want to achieve. The recovery boiler, pulp dryer, steam storage and steam turbine will be modernized.

The majority of the electricity needed for the plant comes from the recovery boiler. The resulting steam is used to produce renewable energy. The modern recovery boiler aims to provide more steam. It is then used to operate the pulp dryer. Until now, natural gas has been used here. The turbine can also generate more green electricity from the additional steam.

The work has already begun. “We are pleased that projects with a total value of 20 million euros have been clearly defined and approved,” Sakari Eloranta, technical director of uncoated fine paper at Mundi, was quoted as saying in a company statement. The investment program is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
