Kingsport, Tenn. (ots/PRNewswire) – Eastman’s most sustainable fibers are used in a limited number of T-shirts for outdoor clothing retailers
Eastman, maker of sustainable Naia™ Renew fibers and yarns, has announced that it has partnered with Patagonia® to bring a limited number of shirts made from Naia™ Renew ES – Eastman’s latest fiber offering with increased recycled content – to the clothing retailer’s workwear line. external.
Named for its improved sustainability, Naia™ Renew ES is made with 60% recycled content. Unlike yarns and other cellulosic fibers, this option requires fewer new materials to create an environmentally friendly product. Naia™ Renew ES is manufactured from a blend of molecularly recycled waste materials (40%), recycled cellulose (20%) and renewable wood pulp (40%).
Recycled cellulose comes from 20% of waste, textile waste and cellulose waste that does not come from forests. This innovation is made possible by Eastman’s continued efforts to work with environmentally conscious partners throughout the value chain. For example, Team Naia™ has a partnership with GP Cellulosea pulp supplier with a focus on sustainability, for integrating renewable forest fibers and non-forest fiber solutions into raw materials.
The remaining 40% of recycled content* comes from Eastman’s latest molecular recycling technology, which breaks down hard-to-recycle waste like plastic packaging and old carpets into the building blocks from which acetic acid is extracted to make cellulose acetate yarn and fibres. Not only does this process result in fewer greenhouse gas emissions, but it also avoids waste disposal in landfills, incinerators or other unwanted locations.
“Patagonia has always been a company that chooses its fibers carefully and responsibly,” said Ruth Farrell, general manager of Eastman Textiles. “Working with Patagonia has helped us develop materials that appeal to the company’s customers – people who care about the environment who work and play hard. Patagonia customers want clothing that reflects who they are and what they are.” important to them, without compromising on comfort and quality. ”
The Patagonian Workwear Line is a fair trade clothing line for people who work hard every day to make the planet a better place to live, work and produce. It is made of durable, eco-friendly fiber while reducing carbon emissions. For more information, see www.patagonia.com/workwear.
Naia™ fibers and yarns are responsibly sourced from sustainably managed pine and eucalyptus forests. Eastman has aligned the entire forest supply chain with Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) sourcing standards, including controlled timber practices. Eastman is FSC® (C140711) and PEFC™ Chain of Custody certified, and all of its suppliers also hold internationally recognized forestry certifications. In addition, Eastman has partnered with Canopy to demonstrate its continued commitment to sustainable forest management.
“Now more than ever, people want to know how and where our clothes are made, and they are especially concerned about what they are made of,” Farrell said. “Naia™ Renew ES is our answer to the growing problem – the consumption of raw materials from plastic waste and the rise in greenhouse gases from deforestation. It is a forward-thinking fiber, made with future generations in mind – without compromising the quality of clothing or the health of our planet.”
