The International Chopin Festival takes place in Kartos Games (Chips district) from August 13-15. This year’s theme is “For International Understanding, Peace and Freedom”.
“As a festival of classical and romantic music, the International Chopin Festival at Kartos Games, organized by the International Chopin Association in Vienna, has been using the power of music to promote understanding across all geographical boundaries for decades,” says the organiser’s website.
The 37th edition of the International Chopin Festival will open on Friday at 3:30 pm in the Prälatenhof with the game music troupe and the traditional costume group Lackenhof. Next, Artel Quartet, Natalia Rehling, Manfred Wagner-Artzt and Roman Zaslavsky will play the works of Friedrich Chopin, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven at the opening ceremony from 6pm in the Carthusian Church.
Liszt and reading by candlelight
Saturday 12 noon at Prelate Hall begins with a gala dinner, accompanied by dám Jávorkai on cello and Clara Permas on piano, with music by Frédéric Chopin, Henryk Wieniawski and David Popper. At the Nocturno Festival, soloists will present compositions by Frédéric Chopin, Ludwig van Beethoven, Ernst Bloch and Franz Liszt in the Baroque Library by candlelight from 7:00 pm, as well as a reading by actress Liliana Neselka.
On Sunday, Artel Quartet as well as Natalia Rehling, Piotr Kościk and Jasminka Stancul will play on piano from 11:00 am with works by Friedrich Chopin, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven.
