Despite the advanced technology, the Africa Twin Standard and Adventure Sports are still missing some features found on other premium adventure bikes for 2024, like adaptive cruise control systems with radar or blind-spot indicators. However, both models offer an impressive array of technologies that improve the driving experience. The new thing that has proven itself well in practice is the semi-active electronic suspension.
For the 2024 model year, the semi-active suspension, Showa's Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment (EERA), is no longer optional, but instead fitted as standard on every Africa Twin Adventure Sports model.
This advanced chassis continuously monitors the motorcycle's speed, pitch (via the Bosch MM7.10 six-axis IMU) and fork movement. The computer then adjusts the damping according to the driver's preferences. There are four preset suspension modes (hard, medium, soft and off-road) plus a user-configurable mode that allows the rider to manually adjust the fork and shock spring preload in 24 steps.
Compared to the previous model with electronic suspension, EERA provides additional flexibility and adaptability to ensure improved suspension performance under different driving conditions. This provides drivers with improved ride quality and safety by dynamically adapting the chassis to road conditions and driving behavior.
Constant adaptation to various external factors leads to great comfort while driving. Ease of use is also an important keyword here. From now on, the driver will not have to manually adjust the chassis to the mode every time (which, let's be honest, most people don't do anyway), but the computer takes care of the adjustment continuously while driving. For example, the chassis becomes stiffer when driving faster on the highway or winding mountain passes, but provides soft cushioning when driving through occasional villages with many speed limits. The EERA is definitely recommended and is also available as a variant of the Africa Twin Standard.
