50 goals: England stunned by ‘Freak’ Haaland
Updated 01/05/2023 at 1:38 PM
What makes Haaland’s performance even more impressive: With the English Senate still fielding 22 teams until the 1995/96 season, Cole and Shearer both played far more games than the 22-year-old City wonder boy. Cole’s 34 goals were spread over 40 league duels, with Shearer even playing in all 42 matches in his record season.
For comparison: Haaland only needed 31 Premier League matches. With five matches remaining, he has excellent chances to increase his goal tally.
Needless to say, the Skyblues number nine was then celebrated for its impressive numbers.
Reactions to Haaland’s record.
Erling Haaland (Manchester City) on Sky Sports: “It’s a special night, a special moment for me. I’m happy and proud. I spoke to Jack Grealish before the game – and he told me he’d like to help me score the record goal (whatever he does). male. editor).
Pep Guardiola (Manchester City coach) on Sky Sports: “It’s unbelievable. He scored so many important goals, we are very happy for him. He’s a one-of-a-kind person. He deserves all the praise because he’s a great teacher. One day he might break his record!”
Guardiola on BBC Sport: “He’s only 22 and he’s only got five games left. I also sometimes substitute him after 60 minutes because he’s already scored a hat-trick. He probably would have scored more goals otherwise. I can only congratulate him.”
Nathan Ake (Manchester City) on Sky Sports: “It’s crazy. He achieves every day. He deserves it because he works so hard. I hope he can score more goals.”
Micah Richards (Ex-City Pro) on Sky Sports: “Honestly, Erling Haaland is absolutely amazing. This is his first season in the Premier League – what he’s done is amazing. I expected him to score a lot of goals but I never did.”
Gary Lineker (English football legend) on Twitter: “The Premier League record for Erling Haaland. 35 goals. That’s insane. My thoughts are with Alan Shearer these minutes.”
Alan Shearer (former record holder) in response to Lineker’s Twitter post: “I couldn’t have asked for a nicer man to succeed me. It’s taken 28 years! He’s the best.”
