Preview: Stage 21 of the 2024 Tour de France

instead of one Honor Tour As usual in the final stage, the remaining professionals in the race will have to fight against the clock. The final time trial starts from Monaco over 33.7 kilometres to Nice. For the first time in its 120-year history, the Grand Boucle does not end in the French capital, Paris. The reason for this is its proximity to the Olympic Games in the French capital, which start on July 26.

Stage 21 | July 21 | Monaco – Nice | 33.7 km | 650 m

A nearly scenic route takes the pros from Monaco to Nice, passing through stunning mountain and sea views. But drivers won’t have much time to enjoy this scenario. After four flat kilometres through Monaco, the first ascent to La Turbie awaits on the D53. Over 8.1 kilometres with an average gradient of 5.6 percent, the climb leads to the final mountain classification of this Tour. The climb to the Category 2 mountains is never steeper than 6.5 percent in any section, making it easy to drive. After a short four-kilometre descent, we continue on to the Col d’Issy, Monaco’s local mountain and a popular training route for the pros. This short, steep ascent of 1.6 kilometres and 8.1 percent represents the final obstacle of this Tour de France.

After two kilometres on the plateau, there is a fast and technically demanding descent with some sharp bends, for a total of nine kilometres down to the Côte d’Azur. There, the route first passes through the Promenade des Anglais towards the airport before turning back into the city centre. Via Avenue Jean Médecin, the riders reach Place Masséna, where the winner of the Tour will be crowned – an unusual finish outside Paris, but one that doesn’t detract from the scenery.
