Until now, Qualcomm has been known as a supplier of many smartphone components. Most important certainly are the Snapdragon SoCs, but also wireless technologies (5G and WiFi 6E) as well as charging technology, fingerprint sensors, audio, video and photo processing. Many manufacturers use Qualcomm technologies to a greater or lesser extent.
In cooperation with ASUS, Qualcomm has now developed the first smartphone that should use the mentioned technologies as fully as possible. With the “Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders,” the name isn’t quite as round as it should be. But let’s get to what Qualcomm and ASUS have put together here: The smartphone comes with a 6.78-inch screen, measures 173.15 x 77.25 x 9.55mm and weighs 210g. There is no choice in terms of color. The box is always midnight blue. The said 6.78-inch screen has a resolution of 2,448 x 1,080 pixels, offers a 144Hz refresh rate and uses Samsung’s AMOLED. This is accompanied by a brightness of 800 cd / m², and for a short time a maximum of 1200 cd / m² can be used. The color deviation should not exceed Delta-E <1. In addition, the display is HDR10 and HDR10+ certified.
On the inside is the Snapdragon 888 5G, which is manufactured at 5 nanometers. The CPU cores used in this model are four Kryo 680 Silver (Arm Cortex-A55) at 1.80GHz, three Kryo 680 Gold (Arm Cortex-A78) at 2.40GHz and one faster Kryo 680 Prime (Arm Cortex-X1) at 2.84GHz max. . The integrated Adreno 660 graphics unit operates at 840MHz. The main memory is 16 GB LPDDR5. The memory of your operating system and data is 512 GB.
Another important feature of the smartphone is definitely the cameras. Sony IMX686 64MP and Sony IMX363 12MP for wide-angle shots – 14.3mm with 35mm equivalent focal length, which also allows for macro shots with a distance of at least 40mm, built into the Snapdragon Insider smartphone. The telephoto lens camera has an accuracy of 8 megapixels and provides 3x optical zoom. The front camera provides 24 megapixels with a focal length of 27 mm (35 mm equivalent). 8K video can be recorded at 30 frames per second. If you switch to resolution in UHD, 60fps can also be achieved with the primary camera.
In terms of wireless technologies, the Snapdragon Insiders smartphone offers WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, aptX for audio, NFC and of course cellular standards from GSM to 5G Sub6 NR and mmWave, which, of course, are indispensable for a smartphone. There is space for two SIM cards in the housing. In terms of navigation technologies, GPS, Glonass, BDS, Galileo, QZSS and NavIC are supported. Sensors include a gyroscope, an electronic compass, a proximity sensor, a light sensor, and a hall sensor.
The battery capacity is 4000 mAh. This can be charged wirelessly via Quick Charge 5.0. The unit supplies power up to 65 watts. An ultrasonic fingerprint sensor (3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2) is available at the bottom of the screen for user authentication.
The Snapdragon Insiders smartphone is delivered as a complete package. It also means there’s Android 11 on it – without any modifications by Qualcomm or ASUS. In addition to the smartphone itself, the scope of delivery also includes the MW08SI in-ear headphones with noise canceling, a 65W charger, an amplifier to protect the smartphone if desired, and a USB-C charging cable. As of August, the Snapdragon Insiders smartphone will be available for 1299 euros.
