Report – US warns against increased cooperation between Russia and China in Arctic

US Deputy Defense Secretary Hicks said in a presentation of the Pentagon's climate strategy this year that climate change creates new opportunities for shipping lanes and mineral resources in the region. Hicks pointed out that China is a major financier of Russia's energy exploitation in the Arctic.

The report envisions the first snow-free summer in 2030

The two countries intensified their military cooperation in the region and held joint exercises off the coast of Alaska. The report estimates that the Arctic will experience its first ice-free summer by 2030.

It was said from Beijing that the United States was undermining China's Artkis policy. It is subject to international law. Kremlin spokesman Peskov said Russia has a responsibility on the ground to prevent the Arctic from becoming a zone of conflict and tension.
