Salt Bae is probably the world’s most hated restaurateur – and at the same time one of the most successful. Celebrities are regular guests at Nusr-Et’s trained steakhouse chain, and its social media accounts have tens of millions of followers. Whatever one thinks of him, there is no arguing that he knows how to put himself in the spotlight. More often, however, with negative consequences: Salt Bae’s selfie session with the World Cup sparked a bomber storm and Nusret Gökçe, real name of the celebrity gastronome, and his company regularly faced accusations of sexual harassment and wage theft. Now, the Salzmann Empire had suffered another setback. New York’s Salt Bae Burger has closed after critics called it “the worst restaurant in New York.”

Now, the Salzmann Empire had suffered another setback. New York’s Salt Bae Burger has closed after critics called it “the worst restaurant in New York.”
One of the restaurant’s most scathing reviews comes from Scott Lynch via Gothamist. Shortly after its opening, Salt Bae Burger was described as “the worst restaurant in New York City right now”. The quality of the food and the ambience of the burger shop were completely pulled through the mud. “It had hangar charm,” restaurant testers from online broker Eater wrote of the facility, and the $100 machine (with gold leaf, of course) had heads shaking.
The first Salt Bae Burger opened in Dubai in 2019, followed by the New York branch in pandemic year 2020. Another location in Los Angeles was planned but never opened. After the last shutdown, it will never happen again.
