Shiffrin on the return of Hirscher and Vonn: “I'm excited”

Mikaela Shiffrin welcomes the wildcard to the Ski World Cup. Who would the American star like to see in the starting house again?

Mikaela Shiffrin doesn't know when she will end her career yet. When the time comes, it will be forever. “I want a family then,” the American star said on Thursday at Atomic Media Day in Salzburg. But she will be even more “excited” to see two more legends return to the Ski World Cup.

You will follow Marcel Hirscher's story with enthusiasm. “I don't know how good he actually is. But I think it's great that he's racing again,” says Shiffrin, one of those athletes defending the newly introduced wild card for particularly deserving (former) pros. “Maybe a few others will think about it, and I'd welcome it.” Who would you like to see in the starting house again? “Tina Miz or Marlyse Reich, for example.”

Shiffrin on von: “I wish her the best”

The fact that another former teammate was apparently considering a return to racing also came as a surprise to Shiffrin. As SN exclusively reported, Lindsey Vonn is currently training again at Sölden, has put herself into play as a leader at Beaver Creek and has serious ambitions to return with her new prosthetic knee. “I just heard about it and have no idea what her plans are. But her knee, which has caused her so much pain, should be fine again. I'm happy about that and I wish her the best when she comes back. It actually does.”
