Anyone who didn't like the 2K Launcher has reason to be happy: Civilization VII will be doing away with the tool – and that will be the case with Civilization VI in the near future as well.
Getting sidetracked by developer or publisher launchers is a pain for many PC gamers, after all, you need another third-party tool beyond just Steam or the Epic Games Store – and often just for a specific title. This was also the case with Sid Meier’s Civilization VI – but that’s changed now!
Firaxis has confirmed that the recently announced Civilization VII will drop the 2K Launcher as a requirement. And even better: thanks to the new update, the current and already available Civilization VI will also avoid the 2K Launcher in the future and will later drop the corresponding requirement.
Anyone who purchased a copy of Civilization VI on Steam will no longer need 2K Launcher and can launch the game directly through Steam – without any additional tools.
In a subreddit about the game, the community manager confirmed that 2K also has plans to drop this requirement on the Epic Games Store in the future; however, we still have to see when that will happen there.
Fans of the turn-based strategy game were largely happy to see this requirement removed and celebrated 2K and Firaxis for the move.
