Slovakia has reported the largest number of daily infections with the new coronavirus since the beginning of the epidemic. According to information published today, the 5.5 million member state of the European Union has had 15,278 people who have tested positive for the virus.
However, the Bratislava Ministry of Health restricted in a statement later sent to Facebook that the record was at least in part due to methodological reasons. Some PCR tests have been added to the NIS with a delay, which is why the presentation is distorted.
However, the ministry has not denied that the trend is increasing rapidly regardless of this error. Experts also attribute the high number of infections to the low level of vaccination among the population. So far, only 45 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated.
Of the more than 3,400 people hospitalized with Covid-19, only 15.5 percent have been vaccinated, according to official statistics. A state of emergency has been in place in Slovakia since November 25, which allows, among other things, restrictions on exit. The general closure also went into effect on the same day.
