Since 1986, the “Kissinger Summer” has been held from mid-June to mid-July. The program of the 2022 festival is based on “The Wealth of Musical Cultures in Austria-Hungary and Bohemia”.
More than a national school
The Czech Philharmonic conducted works by three Czech composers under the direction of Peter Bublka. German violinist Isabelle Faust was the soloist for Bohslav Martineau’s Violin Concerto No. 2. After Misha Elman, one of the greatest violinists of his time, heard Martinus’ Symphony No. 1 performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in New York in 1942, he commissioned the composer to write his violin concerto. In 1943, Elman was the soloist at the premiere with the Boston Symphony Orchestra led by Sergei Kosievitsky. Isabel Faust has been campaigning for this work for several years.
out of the shadows
The concert at Regentenbau in Bad Kissingen opened with Smetana’s melody poem “Aus Böhmens Hain und Flur” and concluded with Dvorak’s Seventh Symphony. In recent years, it has been heard so much in international concert halls that it can no longer be said that it was “overshadowed by the composer’s last two symphonies”.
