Upon release, Sonic X Shadow Generations became an all-time bestseller.
SEGA could not have expected a much better start: Sonic, according to the company, broke the million sales mark on the day of publication.
Buyers of the more expensive Digital Deluxe Edition were able to get started on three days earlier this week. The feedback so far has been consistently positive. Some players even go so far as to call it one of the best games in the long-running successful franchise.

Sonic X Shadow Generations has already become one of the fastest selling games in the entire series. Sonic Frontiers' launch sales numbers have also already been surpassed.
The original Sonic Generations, which was released for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, had reached 1.85 million sales by May 2012 – a number that appears to be within reach given the start of sales of the remaster. The best-selling 3D Sonic game to date is Sonic Frontiers, which had sold 3.5 million copies by the end of April 2023.
