Spezerei opening in Schattendorf: “I wish many satisfied customers in the future”

The 19-year-old did not hesitate long and dared to take a step into self-employment. Philip Grabner opened “Spezerei” in Schattendorf on September 2, 2022.
In this interview, he explains how this idea came about, what requirements he faced and how he sees the future.

Mr. Grabner, congratulations on opening the store. How satisfied are you with the opening ceremony and display of your store?
The opening day was very interesting and positive for me. With the active support of my grandparents, many acquaintances and friends, I was well prepared for the day. It did not bother me at all that among the visitors there were not only local residents, but also interested people from the region.

You called your work “Spezerei”. what is the reason? What do you do and who are your customers?
The name Spezerei refers to the shops with expensive spices in the 14th century. It is against this background that I also like to mainly address my clients with exclusive products. But daily products can also be found in my store.

How did the idea of ​​starting your own business arise?
After graduating from business school, I already knew I didn’t want to spend my life in an office. Since it is a pleasure to be there as a service provider for other people, I dared to take a step into freelancing.

How, with whom, and with whom did you prepare yourself for self-employment?
My grandmother, Andrea Grabner, alias Aunt Dia, has been self-employed for several years. I learned a lot of basic knowledge from her and my grandfather. I got important information from WKO.

Where do you see your challenges in the near future?
I see the biggest challenge in maintaining all this without any previous professional experience.

Is there anything still missing? Employees, devices, partners, or the like?
First of all, I miss the staff. Although I have the active support of my grandparents, I am mostly a “one man” business.

Why did you choose these producers or products?
These producers were chosen because they are in the immediate vicinity and because we already know them and their products from the markets of the border countries that were already in Schattendorf. Moreover, I have orientated myself to the demands of our clients.

Mr. Grabner, what are your hopes for the future?
For the future, I wish many satisfied customers, but of course also health, so that I can actively help them.
