After several attempts, Rhönkanal reader Martin Walter was able to capture a photo of the current comet Tsuchenshan in all its glory on Wednesday.
In an impressive series of about 160 images, taken over the course of 1.5 hours, Martin photographed the comet with two cameras.
This night of intense observing was well worth it and provided fascinating information about the comet's journey across the night sky.
One of the two resulting image series was combined into a 16-second time-lapse video. The result shows the comet's path in an impressive way, a clear representation of the Tsuchenshan motion that brings the vastness of the universe to life.
In addition to the video, Martin Walter created a beautiful mix using a software stack of around 150 individual shots taken with an 80mm lens. In this detailed configuration, the comet's tail is clearly visible – a rare and fascinating sight for skywatchers and astronomy enthusiasts.
The images make the uniqueness and beauty of Comet Tsuchenchan visible and allow the Rhone night sky to shine in a special light.
Many thanks to Martin for these wonderful photos and the opportunity to participate in this extraordinary celestial event!
