Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov stunned world number two Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami.
On Thursday (local time), Demetro qualified for the semi-finals after a convincing time of 6:2,6:4 in 1:33 hours and will meet German Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, who previously defeated Fabian Marozsan from Hungary.
“I felt like I was 13 on the court, and Gregor was that strong,” the top-seeded Spaniard said. “It was crazy. He played amazing tennis, almost perfect. I couldn't find any solutions.” The unexpected defeat could cost Alcaraz second place in the world rankings if Italian Jannik Sinner wins the tournament. Sinner will play against defending champion Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals.
The 32-year-old Dmytro, who is currently ranked 12th in the ATP rankings and 11th in Miami, can return to the top 10 for the first time since 2018 with another win. However, Zverev has won seven of his eight meetings with Dmytro so far.
The women's final has been set, where she will meet American Danielle Collins, who will retire after this season, and Jelena Rybakina from Kazakhstan, on Saturday (local time). Unseeded Collins easily defeated Yekaterina Alexandrova of Russia 6:3.6:2. Rybakina, seeded fourth, had more trouble with Victoria Asarenka of Belarus and won 6:4.0:6.7:6(2).
