The SV Guntamatic Ried players completed an intense training session on Wednesday afternoon at the Klaus Roettinger Stadium. At the end there were a few short practice games with the young Vikings on the program.
Without the second team, such training matches with 22 players would be difficult at the moment. Before Saturday’s Bundesliga qualifying group kicks off at the Wolfsburger Arena (5pm CEST), coach Maximilian Senft has had to deal with key personnel problems during the international break. As if the injury absences of Marcel Ziegl, Nikola Stosic, Stefan Nuts and Denizcan Kosgun were not enough, there is now a big question mark over the use of several players against Wydad due to illness.
Christophe Monchin and Christophe Lang missed training on Wednesday. Posting the duo on a weekend is highly unlikely. Philipp Bommer and Leo Micic were also influenced. Whether the two will be on the team only on Saturday will be decided on very short notice. Aleksandar Lutovac ran only light runs on Wednesday. One or the other will miss on Saturday, “Whatever happens, it will happen, we have a lot of hungry players who can then jump into the hole,” says coach Senft. David Ungar has to stop against the WAC one last time due to his red suspension (for three games). There is good news from midfielder Michael Martin, who has also been sick. The 22-year-old German was able to complete Wednesday’s practice session, so there is hope for a stint in Wolfsburg.
Captain Marcel Ziegl may soon be a subject on the professional team again. A return next Friday for the Vikings’ away game against LASK Amateurs in the Regionalliga Mitte doesn’t seem out of the question. Samuel Sahin-Radlinger could return to the Ridder squad against Wolfsburg. “We will wait and see how his body will react over the next couple of days, the training sessions were very positive,” says Senft.
Asked how Wolfsberger AC, who have not lived up to expectations so far this season, should expect on Saturday, coach Reed replied: “I suppose a lot of input has come from the new coaching staff over the last couple of weeks… Overall, it’s a team with Very good attack. We will fight back.”
In a touchdown battle, Reeder wants to score “with a unit on the field,” which Sneft describes as a “basic.” “We need a situation worthy of a relegation battle. This is quite a given, and we also need complete conviction in our behavior and our game idea,” says Senft.
“The Bundesliga in Reed is very important for the club and the region”
