The crisis-torn Tyrolean crystal company Swarovski is recently cutting 40 jobs in three local stores – 20 in Innsbruck and Wattens and 20 in Vienna. This was reported by ORF Tirol on Thursday. Deconstruction has been debated with the poor outlook for city tourism. Above all, guests from Asia and beyond will be absent for the foreseeable future.

At the beginning of July, the short-time business model ended in Swarovski stores. Staff have been informed of this and of the downsizing. Those affected are registered with AMS.

The group spoke of “painful steps”, a necessary adjustment to the services group and emphasized that the social plan put in place last year in the context of the downsizing also applies to affected people now in stores. Last year, 70 million euros were made available for this.

The sharp decline in the number of Swarovski stores became known already in January. In Austria, 33 out of 102 stores were abolished. About 750 out of 3,000 stores worldwide are said to have been affected at that time.

Swarovski has made negative headlines at regular intervals due to massive job cuts in 2020. 1,200 employees have been cut at headquarters in Wattens. 250 more to follow this year.
