Synchronized swimmer Vasiliki Pagona Alexandri won her second medal at the World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka with a silver in the free program after placing second in the technical program.
The 25-year-old individual swimmer scored 229.3251 points, and only local champion Yukiko Inoue was better on Wednesday with 254.6062. For her it was the second gold medal after that in the freestyle technique. The bronze went to Britain’s Kate Shortman with a score of 219.9542.
Alexandri, who is coached by Albina Mladinova, selected the second highest difficulty level for her free program “Sound of Nature” with a score of 37.00, only Inui had more among all twelve finalists with a score of 38.95.
Vasiliki Alexandri’s successes cannot be rated highly enough, as they can look back on a not-so-smooth setup due to a spinal disc problem. For this reason, she also had to cancel the trip to the European Games in Poland, as she wanted to be there as a moral support for her triple sister Anna Maria and Irini Marina.
The two gave high support in the hall on Wednesday, on Thursday they will go on to medal in a duet in the free program. In the freestyle technique, the disappointment was great after the fifth place.
