For nearly two decades, Pam in Graz has worked on a variety of fragrances for business clients around the world – and fragrance development is complex, as product developer Sophie Zandel explains: “When it comes to the product itself, the first step is actually To tell perfumers – these “noses” are all located in the south of France around Grasse and Nice.”

From the passing top note to the heart note to the longest perceivable base note, the ingredients must be exactly the same, says Verena Rich, managing director of Pam: “This is a seminar made up of a variety of components. It’s not just about integrating something, but It’s about how you incorporate it. When you smell something, how feelings are expressed, and what raw material you compliment which one is better.”

Alcohol, water and perfume oil

The exact recipes are, of course, well-kept secrets – but what does this perfume contain primarily? “The basis is alcohol – we always pay attention to high-quality alcohol. Then there is usually the water and then the fragrance oil itself, and we make sure that the best raw materials are used,” says Quality Manager Mona Hirschbock.

Up to 1,200 bottles per hour can then be filled at the bottling plant in Graz.

Definitely don’t rub it

Of course, the perfumers at Graz also have tips to ensure their scents last for a long time: “Never rub the scent. My advice: apply it to the nape of the neck at the hairline, because that gives a little extra when you’re walking next to someone,” says Zandel.
