Tesla has halted orders in the US for the cheapest version of the Cybertruck, which costs $61,000.

Meanwhile, the company is offering fast delivery of the $100,000 version of the electric car, the company's website shows.

Demand and supply for the Cybertruck will be closely watched by Tesla investors and fans as CEO Elon Musk has poured significant resources into the vehicle's development and plans to produce 200,000 units annually.

Last October, Musk said Tesla had 1 million reservations for the truck, and some customers have suggested they are waiting for cheaper versions because prices are higher and ranges are shorter than originally expected.

Cox Automotive said the Cybertruck sold nearly 4,800 units in July, its best month yet, making it the best-selling vehicle in the United States priced at more than $100,000.

A total of about 16,000 Cybertrucks have been sold so far. Deliveries of the Cybertruck — which features an unconventional trapezoidal exterior inspired by the movie “Blade Runner” and a stainless steel body — begin in November 2023 after years of delays.

The background is that Tesla currently has a very large number of the two most expensive models in stock. The $99,990 version will start delivering soon, and the $119,990 version will be available starting in October.
